Industries
Industry-agnostic. Problem-specific.
We are not a sector specialist, and we do not claim to be. What we specialise in is a class of problem: operations that have grown manual, disconnected or dependent on a small number of people. Those problems look remarkably similar across industries. The vocabulary changes; the structure rarely does.
A note on what follows
Each section below lists the operational problems we commonly look for in that type of business. They are starting points for a conversation, not claims of sector specialisation, and not descriptions of completed client work.
Construction & Trades
Work is won on estimates and lost on coordination. The operational load sits in quoting, keeping the field and the office in sync, and knowing what a job actually cost once it is finished.
Problems we commonly look for in this type of business
- Estimating that depends on one senior person and a complex costing spreadsheet
- Quotes that take days to produce and then go without follow-up
- Missed calls and enquiries that never make it into a tracked pipeline
- Field updates arriving by text, photo and phone call rather than into a system
- Purchasing and supplier costs reconciled manually after the fact
- Job costing that only becomes clear well after the job is closed
- Scheduling changes that have to be communicated person by person
Automotive
Volume is high and margins are tight, so small inefficiencies repeat thousands of times a year. Most of the operational cost sits in follow-up discipline and in reporting across locations.
Problems we commonly look for in this type of business
- Enquiries arriving across phone, web, marketplace and walk-in with no single owner
- Follow-up that depends on individual memory rather than a defined process
- Service scheduling, reminders and status updates handled manually
- Inventory and reconditioning status tracked in spreadsheets alongside the DMS
- Reporting rebuilt by hand each week to compare locations
- Customer communication that varies significantly by advisor
Property & Real Estate
The operation is coordination-heavy: many small requests, many parties, and documents that must reach the right people in the right order.
Problems we commonly look for in this type of business
- Maintenance requests arriving by phone, email and text with no tracked status
- Vendor coordination and scheduling handled entirely by one coordinator
- Document collection and approvals chased manually through email threads
- Tenant or client updates that require someone to remember to send them
- Renewal, inspection and compliance dates tracked in personal calendars
- No reliable view of open requests, ageing or response times
Professional Services
Capacity is billable time, so administrative load translates directly into lost revenue. The friction is usually in intake, document handling and the recurring reporting cycle.
Problems we commonly look for in this type of business
- Client intake that collects incomplete information and needs several follow-ups
- Document preparation and assembly repeated manually for each matter or engagement
- Deadline and task tracking distributed across individual systems
- Time and status reporting compiled by hand each month
- Senior staff spending billable hours on administrative coordination
- Precedent knowledge and process rules held informally by long-serving staff
Logistics & Transportation
Everything is time-sensitive and exception-driven, so the operation lives or dies on how quickly accurate information reaches the right person.
Problems we commonly look for in this type of business
- Dispatch and scheduling coordinated by phone and message rather than a system
- Status updates to customers requiring a person to check and relay them
- Proof of delivery and paperwork collected, scanned and filed manually
- Exception handling for delays, reroutes and failures, with no consistent process
- Fleet, maintenance and compliance records kept across separate spreadsheets
- No reliable operational reporting without significant manual assembly
Manufacturing
Production is usually well understood. The friction is at the edges: purchasing, scheduling changes, documentation and the reporting that connects the floor to the office.
Problems we commonly look for in this type of business
- Purchasing and reorder decisions driven by memory and manual stock checks
- Production scheduling maintained in a spreadsheet outside the main system
- Handoffs between sales, planning and the floor requiring re-entry of the same data
- Quality and compliance documentation captured on paper and transcribed later
- Management reporting assembled manually from several disconnected sources
- Costing and margin per run understood only after the fact
Insurance & Financial Services
Process discipline is not optional here. The operational cost sits in document collection, consistent follow-up, and being able to demonstrate that the process was followed.
Problems we commonly look for in this type of business
- Enquiries and referrals tracked inconsistently across advisors
- Document collection from clients chased manually over weeks
- Renewal, review and service tasks dependent on individual diaries
- Compliance evidence assembled retrospectively rather than captured in the process
- Client communication quality varying significantly by individual
- Reporting on pipeline, service levels and outstanding items built by hand
Not on the list?
The pattern matters more than the sector
If your business has repeatable processes, enough volume for inefficiency to be expensive, and leadership willing to change how things are done, the approach applies.
The vocabulary changes between industries. A job, a matter, a load, a work order and a policy renewal are the same structural thing: a unit of work that moves through people and systems, and can get stuck in the gaps.

Which of these sounds like your business?
If more than one of the problems above looks familiar, that is usually a sign there is a structural issue worth diagnosing properly.
